To Whom It May Concern:
It is decided, I am going to get a major in sociology and minor in mathematics. For the past year and a half I have been debating whether I should major/minor in sociology and major/minor in math.
I have wanted to become a mathematician since I was like 13. I love math. I am different from the person I thought I would be five years ago. Back then, I was scared to go into liberal arts because I might not get job.
Money partially helped my drive for math. If you become an applied mathematician, you will become a very wealthy person. My family has always been poor. I wanted lots of money to help my parents retire early and put my nieces through college. Money is still important but when I list the things I want to accomplish in life, being the richest person is not very high. I am going to do what I love most and I know will be able to find some sort of job along the way.
I love sociology. It is the best subject in the whole wide world. Although I was thinking about double majoring in sociology and math. I will only be able to take my sociology, math, and core classes. In order to become a great sociologist, I have to know more than math, sociology and watered down core classes.
I need knowledge in all fields. As cheesy as this might sound, I want to be an interdisciplinarian. I want to take ethics of engineers and scientists, economics, organic chemistry, Arabic, art history, aesthetics, nuclear physics, etc... (I am not only going to take classes. I am going to study outside class too.) And apply it all to sociology.
